In the SLR process, different ATs were analyzed for disabilities such as visual, mobility, upper body, prostheses, hearing & speaking, daily living, and participation in society. In this context, this systematic literature review (SLR) analyzes and describes how free and open-source hardware (OSHW) and open software (OSS) are employed in the design, development, and deployment of low-cost ATs. One of these barriers is concerning the accessibility and affordability of assistive technologies (ATs) that help to enhance the quality of life of these persons. Whereas, the raspberry pi contains OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and a text to speech conversion unit (TTS engine), where the first performs optical character recognition and extracts text from the image, while the second converts it into speech and outputs it with headphones. Then the sound is output through the speakers and amplifier. With the use of OCR technology to convert an image to text through optical character recognition and extract text information from the image and convert it into speech. Therefore, in this paper we propose to design and implement a smart gara system to assist the visually impaired using a raspberry pi connected to a webcam interfaced that takes a picture of the text. But with the development of technologies and computers and the need for an easier and less expensive way to help the blind solve the problem of reading any manuscript, even handwritten, and converting it into audio output. To help them solve their problem and not depend on others, a writing method was developed by the inventor Louis Braille known as the Braille writing method. Many blind people around the world have had challenges reading books. This will help them to gain particular knowledge from the reading without a need to learn Braille. The motivation to develop this product is to encourage all blind people to read ordinary books. For hardcopy book, a camera is embedded to capture the page. By using this book reader, the user can enjoy both softcopy and hardcopy books, by using online text to voice converter with a help of IoT connectivity protocol such as Wifi and 4G services. Therefore, the blind people or those who have low vision will hear it without needing to touch using their fingertips. When the image is recognised, book reader will read it aloud1. Book reader will capture the picture of book pages using camera and book reader will process the images using Optical Character Recognition software. It is also a high portability device with only credit card size and can be carried out anywhere. An IoT device, Raspberry Pi, is used which is very energy efficient because it only uses 5V of power to run. This project utilises IoT technology with the use of an IoT device, IoT infrastructure and service. This paper focuses on development of Smart Book Reader will help the blind people or who have low vision to read the book without using braille.
